This past week has brought to light the painful reality that the African American community has lived with and endured for generations. Institutional and systemic racism in the United States is experienced across every area of life including education, the justice system, healthcare, and employment. The consequences are felt deeply and painfully as black lives are brutally taken, families experience unthinkable grief, and communities are devastated.

We at Latino U College Access stand in solidarity with the black community in the fight against structural racism. We urge everyone to unite in demanding change and committing to do your part to achieve justice and equality. Call out racism where and when you see it; learn all that you can about its pervasiveness in United States history. We promise to do the same with our “Familia.”

As an organization dedicated to increasing educational equity and opportunity for low-income students of color, we witness firsthand the effects of inequality, racism, and injustice. We also see the positive impact that hope, faith, and the determination to build a brighter future have on a young person’s life. Change happens when we unite around a purpose and push forward relentlessly. Lives are at stake. Let’s join together to create a more inclusive, safe, and just nation.
